Event Description
Four Halloween experiences. One unforgettable destination.
Spend the season with Festive Farmstead and experience the Festive Forest your way, from family-friendly daytime fun and a park-and-watch musical light show to spooky nighttime rides and our full-intensity Haunted Hayride.
Daytime Halloween Hayrides
Take a family-friendly ride through the Festive Forest filled with Halloween displays, characters, and seasonal fun - without the scares.
Halloween Musical Light Show
Available nightly. We recommend visiting Sunday through Wednesday to avoid the larger hayride crowds.
Please note: On hayride nights, parking for viewing the Musical Light Show from your vehicle may be limited or unavailable. Guests may instead be directed to watch from our outdoor patio area.
Park, tune in, and watch thousands of lights dance to Halloween music! Our synchronized musical light show is a festive experience the whole family can enjoy from the comfort of your vehicle or from our outdoor patio area.
Cowards Night Hayrides
Not quite ready for our Haunted Hayride? Experience the Festive Forest after dark with eerie lighting, animatronics, sounds, and special effects - but no live scare actors. It is the perfect lower-intensity adventure for guests who want something spooky without the full scares.
Haunted Hayrides
The woods come alive after dark. Climb aboard and hold on as live scare actors, terrifying scenes, intense effects, and surprises hidden around every turn carry you deeper into the Festive Forest.
You may hear them before you see them.
You may see something moving between the trees.
And once the wagon enters the woods, there is no turning back.
Choose your experience, gather your crew, and make Festive Farmstead part of your Halloween season.

Hayrides may be delayed or canceled due to rain, muddy or soft ground, or other unsafe weather conditions. Even after rain stops, the grounds may need additional time to dry before we can safely operate.

Yes! Free parking is available onsite.
Enter through the south driveway marked by our Festive Farmstead sign trailer on Highway 65. Follow the posted signs and any directions from our parking crew.
We use a one-way traffic loop, so please exit through the north driveway.
Parking is on grass and field areas, which may be uneven or muddy depending on the weather.
We offer different experiences for different comfort levels:
• Daytime Halloween Hayrides are free and let guests see the trail in daylight without live scare actors.
• Cowards Night is a lower-intensity after-dark hayride with no scare actors. Fog, lighting, animatronics, and other spooky effects still operate and may startle some children.
• Haunted Hayrides feature live scare actors and unexpected scares. Parents and guardians should consider their child’s comfort with frightening scenes before choosing this experience.
• Our free Halloween Musical Light Show is another option for families who want seasonal fun without taking a haunted hayride.
Yes! Our concession stand and store offer basic snacks and drinks, including chips, candy, suckers, soda, water, and sports drinks.
On select nights, we also have a food truck onsite with additional food options. Follow @FestiveFarmstead on social media for announcements about which truck will be joining us each night.
Dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes. Layers are helpful for cooler evenings. Our outdoor grounds may be uneven, damp, or muddy.
If you purchased tickets online, have your ticket confirmation ready on your phone or bring a printed copy.
Alcohol and weapons are not permitted on the property.
Please follow crew instructions and do not touch scare actors, decorations, props, or equipment.
Pets are not permitted at our Halloween events.
Service animals are considered separately from pets. Our haunted attractions include a moving trailer, limited visibility, startling effects, and uneven outdoor terrain. Any safety concerns involving a service animal will be assessed individually.
If you plan to visit with a service animal, we encourage you to contact us before your visit so we can discuss the experience and any accommodation needs: https://www.festivefarmstead.com/contact-us.
Both rides follow the same trail after dark, with fog, lighting, animatronics, spooky scenes, and other Halloween effects. The main difference is the live scare actors.
Haunted Hayrides run on Fridays and Saturdays and feature our Scare Crew along the trail, adding unexpected scares and a more intense experience.
Cowards Night runs on Thursdays with no scare actors. You still get the after-dark atmosphere and effects, but with a lower-intensity experience. Some effects may still startle you, so it is not completely scare-free.
Both rides are $10 per person. Choose Haunted Hayrides if you enjoy live scares, or Cowards Night if you want to experience the haunted trail without actors jumping out.
Festive Farmstead’s event entrance is at 22502 Orchid Avenue, Mason City, Iowa 50401, just north of Mason City on Highway 65.
Enter through the south driveway marked by our Festive Farmstead sign trailer. Follow posted signs and parking crew directions, and exit through the north driveway.
Please use the event entrance address for directions. Our mailing address is different.
